Miksoft Mobile AMR Converter, AMR Music Converter that I Used

Miksoft Mobile AMR Converter

Miksoft Mobile AMR Converter is PC application that can convert wave music (*.wav) to amr (*.amr) and vice versa. I'm just using it to convert wave to amr, because if converted wav from convertion amr to wav, the quality isn't good. This application was made by Miksoft. Actually, as you see the picture above, this application was made for Sony Ericsson phones, but since all S60 phones and some S40 phones had support amr file, you can use this.

Well, I use amr file for my Nokia 3200, since it can't play mp3 files, but you could use this also for the reason of space, because amr file has small size than mp3 file (there was a phone that support mp3 files but didn't have memory card). To use this application to convert a wav file to amr, you should have wav file that has property 16 bit with 8 kHz sampling frequency to convert (to have this, you could you music converter application like I used), because if you use another wav setting, you'll get a worse quality amr file.

Some phones, like my Nokia 3200, has limit for a file size, my Nokia 3200 has limit about 50 kb per files. So, if that's your case (like mine), you should cut the music for only some second that has a part you like and convert it (to do this you can use music editor like I used).

Audacity, PC Music Editor Application

Audacity

Audacity is a freeware music editor that was made on sourceforge project. With this you can cut or add effect to a music file. Actually, I'm using it for cut my music file, since I don't have a good knowledge in music file. To cut a music file using this application, just delete the unnecessary part from the part and delete it, then save the remaining one (the one that we want to keep), or you can just cut the part you want and paste it in a new project (blank).

You might think, why I suppose to do this? Well, sometimes we want it to make the music file your phone ringtone (because ringtone can only be heard in about a minute before a phone call being picked up or ignore) and/or you want to add it to a theme you made with Theme Studio.

You can also use another software like Nero Wave Editor to do this, if you already have Nero Burning Rom, it's a big chance you already have it, but it's not a free application, but it has also ability to burn CD or DVD (you can get this ability also from another freeware program, just search the net).

Free Mp3 Wma Converter, Music Converter Application

Free MP3 WMA Converter

Free Mp3 Wma Converter is a freeware PC application to convert your music file. It was made by Koyote Soft. Of course you can use PC Suite Music Manager to convert your music, but sometimes it failed to do the convertion process. Also this software has ability to add/edit music tag like title, album name, etc, but this software can't convert to m4a like Music Manager.

Well, for me, since m4a files can't add genre tag, I don't really like it, so I convert my music to aac with this software. If you want to use PC Suite Music Manager, you can combine it to Free Wma Converter. As you know (or you don't know), when you convert using PC Suite Music Manager, sometimes it failed to convert a music file, in that case you can use Free Mp3 Wma Converter to convert it first to wav file, then convert the converted file using PC Suite Music Manager (2 times convertion).

Of course, if you have another music converter application like Easy CD-DA Extractor by Poikosoft, you can use just the application to do the convertion of your music file (I mean without 2 times convertion like I do above). But it's not a freeware, and If you don't mind about that, you can use it, I've already tested it, it's a good software, and I'm still searching if there's a freeware application that has ability like this one. If you know one, let me know, ok!

Anvil Studio, Make/Edit Your Midi/Polyphonic Tones

Anvil Studio

Anvil Studio is a PC application to make or edit midi files (*.mid). It was made by Willow Software. I've already used this application since I've got my Nokia 3200. I'm not really good using it (until now), since I don't really good in music, and I don't really understand the complex of the application, so I was just using it to edit some polyphonic tones that was created by other people.

You know that some phones have specific channel limitation or there's some instrument that a phone can't play, so with this application, you can delete some channel from an original midi file that you have (because the sounds from that channel/instrument can be delete without any major change to your hearing) or change the instrument that couldn't play by your phone with the one that had almost similiar sounds that can. Of course, you must experiment by yourself to find what best to your phone.

Actually, the past version of Nokia PC Suite had the ability to make any midi files to compatible midi files to your phones, but they cut it down now, classic N-Gage also has built-in phone application to edit midi files. I know that many phones already have ability to play mp3 music now, but there's still some (and also new) that can't, so what the reason for Nokia to cut the ability from their new PC Suite? Ask Nokia! Anyway, if you still using the past Nokia PC Suite that has ability to convert a midi files, you can combine Anvil Studio with this, because sometimes when I was using the PC Suite conversion, the sounds of some channel still can't be played in my phones, in that case, edit it again with Anvil Studio.

Delete Real Player History on S60 1st and 2nd Edition

Real Player History

As you see in the left picture, if you'd ever opened a video on your built-in RealPlayer in S60 1st and 2nd Edition phone, you should see the most recent clips that you had watched.

Real Player No History

If you want to delete it from history you can't just delete it from the application. You need a third party file manager that can see the hidden folder and file in your S60 1st and 2nd Edition devices. Then, go to C:\system\data\, find a file named mediaplayer.dat, and delete it. Now, if you check again your RealPlayer, you mustn't see most recent clips option again like the picture in the right.

I found this usefull triks from Symbianize by GSM_BLUE. Now, I don't know how to delete it on S60 3rd Edition. Any info?

Advanced Call Manager and SMS Spam Manager, Call and SMS Manager in My Symbian Phone

Advanced Call Manager

Advanced Call Manager, a symbian application that was made by Webgate, is my symbian phone call manager now. With this, you can block a call from specified number or you can just received from any number that you has choose before. I need this to block any unwanted call on my phone. They also made an application for block sms spam called SMS Spam Manager that also I used (Why don't they just combine this two application?).

SMS Spam Manager

I've already used another application before called Blackballer that was made by Killer Mobile. Blackballer combine the call and sms spam in in one application. But, when the version of blackballer I install in phone run, it sometimes close automatically sometimes if I used it in long time. I wonder it happens because the low of RAM in my phone (as info, I tried it on my Nokia N73). That's why I don't choose it, I don't like the application close automatically without warning me.

Advanced Call Manager and SMS Spam Manager have an option to makes them a Symbian OS system application. This will ensure that it doesn't get close down by the Symbian OS low RAM. I don't know if the new version of Blackballer has this option too. So, I choose this two application. This two was a paid application, I don't know if there's another one like this that free. Let me know if you find one, OK!

S60 Bible, Bible in My Symbian Phone

S60 Bible

This is a holy bible on symbian phone, actually I should call it bible reader on symbian phone because it's an application to read a bible file. This application was made by Compactbyte for free, wow, and it has variant for all S60 Edition and S80.

This application read the same bible file that's read by Bible+, a well known bible reader for Palm, so you can use many bible files that are already available for the Bible+, and it's already made to many language. If your language still not made yet, you can translate it to your language, this is the instruction for converting bible files. The example picture is S60 Bible on my N73 phone using Indonesian language that was made by Yohanes Nugroho.

SISWare, The Sis Editor I Used

SISWare

This sis editor I used to see and extract file in a sis file. SISWare was made by CequenzeTech. It can be used to extract any sis file. Some other sis editor fail to view or extract sis that spesifically designate for symbian ver. 9. You can also see the resource of the sis file.

Well, actually I only used it to view file that will be add to my phone if I install the sis file and see if some of it can be usefull for me. It also can sign an unsign sis file, but I prefer manually sign it. Actually, there's many advance use of this application other that that, but I don't understand how to use it (hiks..). So, that's all, I hope this information can be usefull for you who has more advance knowledge than me (or not).

Delete Sis Uninstall List on Application Manager in S60 1st and 2nd Edition Phone

App. Manager

Well, let me explain this first, when you installed symbian software (sis extension) on our S60 1st and 2nd Edition Phones, the phone would also make the uninstall application file in the [!]:\system\install (change [!] with where you did install the application). Then, when you open the application manager, the phone will checked this directory (in phone and memory card) to find the uninstall list of all application in the phone (that's why it's loading at the first time).

Now, how can you delete an application uninstall program on application manager? simply find the appropriate file on that directory that you want to exclude on the application manager list and move it to other folder that you choose to contain it or renamed it (or delete it, but I don't recommend it, the reason you'll see later). You can use file manager application that I used file manager application that I used to do it, since the built-in file manager application don't give us grant to access that folder. The appropriate file has the same name like the file that you were using to install the application in the phone.

Usually, I just rename the file extension to *.si, so when I need to uninstall it, I just rename it back to *.sis. If you choose to move it to another folder, you can move it back if you want to uninstall it. But, if you delete it, you can't uninstall the application via application manager, you must uninstall it manually through your file exproler application (by delete all the file that install the application).

S-Tris 2, Free Symbian Games on My Phone

S-tris 2

This is a good symbian games by Elementsgames, which is another application powered by Edgelib. This games is freeware since version 1, and they still have S-tris 1 on their website if you want to try it (also freeware). They have variant for all symbian os and another phone os, so if you have another phone os, you can have it with yours.

This games has challenge for tetris maniac (or not) through their maniac game option. In maniac option, you can find a really unimagine block of tetris to control. The right picture is some of the hard new block from maniac game.

S-tris 2 Maniac

What makes this games more interesting is you can upload the score you get on classic and maniac game and see our rank on their website, also you can see another people around the world there having their upload score. When this post is publish, my classic game rank is 156th (score 24500), and my maniac rank is 74th (score 6922), you can see it in Elementsgames S-tris 2 Highscores, the name Virga. The 1st rank at this time on classic and maniac is the same name (I think it's also the same person) Mara has score 149355 on classic and 11553 on maniac, wow how can he/she accomplish that score, fantastic imo.

Well, if you want to try it, can you beat my score above that. I'm still playing it, so maybe my rank will go up someday, and since this game is freeware and has many compatible phone os, why don't you try it and enjoy, share your score, and challange me with that score. He he.

Smartmovie, Video Player on My Symbian Phone

Smartmovie

Smartmovie is my symbian phone video player application. I use it on all my symbian phones. It is a paid application from Lonely Cat Games which is I think a better video player from the built-in video player on phone (Real Player). It has a PC converter to convert video that you want to play in phone to avi that suitable to the application.

The better side of this application from the built-in video player is that it has control when you play it, like roll-back, forward, go to the spesific time you choose, landscape or potrait play, subtitles, etc. Also, you have control to the quality of the video you convert, you can make it worse or better from the built-in player (the default quality is better). When you convert the video, the converter application told us about the approximate size after you convert it, which you might consider to make according to our choice.

I heard there's a freeware video player from DivX to play avi format, but they're late, because I already used Smartmovie when they lauch it, besides I see in their homepage they don't have a converter to convert the video you want, so you must find another software to convert it to our phone or you can move the file to our phone directly (without convert) if the file already avi, which is big size if the video file has long duration. Well, I hadn't tested it yet, but I thought I wouldn't move on it until I heard a big difference in quality and control.

Zip Manager and ZipMan, Archiever on My Phone

Zip Manager

Zip Manager is my archiever in my Nokia N73 (S60 3rd Edition), since I can have it free from download menu, yay. I see in about menu of this application that this application was made by Epocware, but in their homepage there's no Zip Manager they offered, instead they offer Handy Zip, which is not freeware, for archiever solution. I don't know why??

As you can see, I get Zip Manager from download menu, so if your phone download menu don't offer it, or you don't have download menu in your phone, I don't know where to get it if you want it. Well, in that case you can try their Handy Zip application or find another one like that.

In S60 2nd Edition phone, I used ZipMan, a paid application by Wildpalm, because as long as I know, there is no freeware S60 2nd Edition application for archiver solution.

ZipMan

Actually, there's Handy Zip variant for S60 2nd Edition, but at that time I didn't know. So, if you prefered Handy Zip, go as you wish, because their usefull is same.

I see in their homepage, ZipMan has variant for S60 1st and 2nd Edition, but don't has for S60 3rd Edition, and Handy Zip don't has variant for S60 1st Edition, but has for S60 2nd and 3rd Edition. Well, choose which one suit you best.

Fixss and Fixqd, N-Gage Phone Solution for Main App. Closed

N-Gage Phone Screenshot

Someday, my younger brother had a problem with his N-Gage phone to start. When he was starting his N-Gage phone, there was a pop up appeared saying that main application closed, contact your retailer. So, I search on internet about this problem, and found a solution from this all-about-ngage.blogspot. I tried it on my brother phone, and walla, it works.

Then I try to find the original maker of this application (because I just want to know who the real maker of this helpfull application, since in the above blog the file was uploaded somewhere) through Google and I found it on this Sourceforge.net project and glad it's free. While in there I also saw fixqd application, which is the application for fix the problem like this on N-Gage QD. Since I didn't have one, I didn't know the result, but I thought it must be working in QD too.

I found this problem long ago, but I want to post it here to help people, if for some reason this information didn't reach him/her. I hope it's usefull, because it's usefull to me (and my brother).

Photorite SP, A Photo Organizing Application that I Used on My S60 1st and 2nd Edition Phone

Photorite

This application I used on my Nokia 3230, 6230. I know they are S60 2nd Edition, but I think it still okay to used on your S60 1st Edition Phone.

This application I used on my Nokia 3230, 6230. I know they are S60 2nd Edition, but I think it still okay to used on your S60 1st Edition Phone.

This application is not a freeware, Sigh, and I'm not usually using a paid application like this if it's not really usefull to me. I used this application because the built-in photo organizing application in my above phone is slower to open when I have many photos or images (above 100 or 200 photos or images), I thought it's slower because the processing of the thumbnail on the phone as I explained here. Photorite Sp process the thumbnail of the images much faster than that built-in application, so I used it.

In Nokia 3230 and 6230, you must wait for the photo organizing application to process the thumbnail for a long time (5 or 10 minutes average, according to how much images in your phone is). But, in Nokia N72 (S60 2nd Edition) and my S60 3rd Edition phone, perhaps because that much RAM provided by Nokia for this phone, the built-in photo organizing application do the process of the thumbnail a bit faster from the built-in application on the above phone. So, I'm not using Photorite SP in Nokia N72 and my S60 3rd Edition phone, because I don't want to waste the space for it.

Photorite

You can also install it to your Nokia N72 and it also has a variant for S60 3rd Edition, but I think it will not give you the different in the speed of accessing your photos in that phone, because their built-in application also faster processing the thumbnail (maybe because of a very much RAM and the using of SD card variant, which is more faster).

Photorite SP also has another photo manipulation, like photo fixing, sepia, black and white, or just adding photo frame, like I used in the photo in my blog post here, but I think you can just transfer it to your PC and fix it there with Photoshop or whatever photo application that you have, which is have more tools to fix or edit your photos to the more satisfaction of your heart (and more good also). If you just want to play simple by edit the photos just in phone (don't transfered it to PC), you might consider this software for you.

Anyway, this application was made by Zensis

_PAlbTN Folder, Thumbnail Images Container in Nokia Symbian Phones

_PAlbTN Folder

If you're using file manager application like I used here for your Nokia Symbian Phones (because I don't know about another brand Symbian Phones, since I don't have one), you can see that in image folder in your phone, there is a folder named _PAlbTN. You must think, "What is this folder? I never create one of these".

Well, actually, it was made by your Symbian phone itself. Why? That's a folder that contain all the thumbnail that will be used by your built-in photo organizing application in your phone, so, there is all the thumbnail of all your picture in the parent folder contain. When you open your built-in photo organizing application in your phone, it will search for photos in your phone, then it will make the thumbnail to the _PAlbTN folder there, or if there is no _PAlbTN folder, it will make one.

Photo Loading

The _PAlbTN folder has hide attribute, so the picture that stay in that folder will not be searchable by your photo organizing application, and your built-in file manager can't see it. It is like Thumbs.db file in Windows XP. The function is for faster opening thumbnail of your photo application. If you delete it, you'll notice the slower of your photo organizing application to loading like in the right picture, because it will make the new _PAlbTN folder like you delete.

For the performance reason, you shouldn't delete it from your phone. When you delete some images from your phone, the thumbnail images for respective images will also be delete by your phone from the respective _PAlbTN folder. Next time, when you see it, you should know there's images in that folder and know about what makes it there.

Y-Browser and FExplorer, File Manager On My Phone

Y-Browser

For file manager, I used FExplorer from gosymbian for my S60 2nd Edition phone and Y-Browser from pushl for my S60 3rd Edition. All of these is freeware application. You can also used a paid application like Seleq from ximplify or x-plore from lonelycatgames , but this two application has no really big different from the previous one I choose.

Actually, Nokia has already made a built-in file explorer application in their symbian phone, but it's not really has control to the entire file in our phone, it can't explore to any system or hide folder or file. They didn't allowed people with their phone to access their system file.

FExplorer

Well, FExplorer was also made for S60 3rd Edition, but to used it you must signing the file for ourselves through a complicated process. Even I can signing it through the process, it has no big different with Y-Browser. So, I'm choosing the Y-Browser for my S60 3rd Edition phone. On the other hand, to use Y-Browser, you don't have to signing it, you can just download and install it to your phone. Simple. And also it has add-on to add to it from their website if you want to.

Screen Snap and FExplorer, Phone Screen Capture Application that I Used

Screen Snap

This is my screen capture that I used to taken picture from my phone to this blog if needed. It's a handy freeware program from terramobilis for S60 2nd Edition and S60 3rd Edition, but I'm only using this software for my N73 (s60 3rd edition), because I used FExplorer from gosymbian in my S60 2nd Edition phone. FExplorer can handle this task too.

Actually, Nokia has made a kind of this little application built in for their early symbian phone like Ngage, but they give up that now for reason that I don't know.

This application is like print screen function in Microsoft Windows PC (because I don't know about Mac or Linux or any other operating system).

FExplorer

This application is really simple, and I think it's only take little RAM (I don't know for sure, but It's not making my phone slower). When you open the application, just make it run in background by choosing back or press menu, and then press edit (pencil) + * to take the screen that you want to take. It is that simple. If you don't want to taking picture of your screen again, for freeing the RAM, or for whatever reason, you can exit that program from options.

In my opinion, the two of these are both handy application for anybody who wants to take the screen picture of his/her symbian phone for a reason, like posting it to a blog like me. He he. And the best from it all, it's free.
